You can have both installed side-by-side without any problems.

I think we have to change the build.txt file :)
Microsoft removed the "limited period" some time ago. And no, it wasn't
a trial period. They first only said that they might pull the download
link and someday ask for a small amount of money for it. But later they
decided to keep it free.

But: you can't compile TortoiseSVN with VCExpress. Only some of the
tools which come with TortoiseSVN can be compiled with it (those not
using MFC). Those are (at this time): TortoiseBlame, TortoiseIDiff,
SubWCRev, ResText.
