Creating a branch afer checkout

Hi everyone,

I'm working on a pretty big project at the moment, and I've just been given
a new development machine to use. The problem is, the changes that I've
currently made on my local machine, are not ready to be committed. What I'd
like to do is create a new branch and populate it with the current code on
my local machine and then checkout that onto my new development machine.

Can anyone please explain how to do this?
