TortoiseSVN is unusably slow

From: Brian Higgisson <brian.higgisson_at_mdbc.gov.au>

We have recently upgraded our installation to a network based file
archive. In this configuration explorer tends to become unusable slow
in general, that is whether using TortoiseSVN or not. In particular
explorer goes into "not responding" mode if any right click operation is
attempted. It seems to make little difference whether the network icon
option is enabled or not.

I have previously used a Berkley/server configuration which didn't
exhibit this problem. Are there some configuration options that can
cause/correct this problem?

Thanks Brian
