That's actually a problem of Sourceforge. Check their issue tracker and
you'll find a lot of such entries. The Sourceforge team is working on a
solution for this, but don't expect one real soon. It happens because of
their setup (multiple servers which redirect certain traffic, ...)

Yes, transparent proxies are one of the reasons for those problems on
Sourceforge. But there are others too (Sourceforge internal ones).
The last thing I heard was that they've solved almost all cases of this
error, but some (as you mentioned: those with transparent proxies) can't
be fixed with a workaround because some of those proxies have a bug
which causes this error with the Sourceforge setup. I don't know if they
will change their setup to avoid those problems or if they just leave it
to the users to update their proxies...
