What part of the repos to check out?

From: Scott Morris <scott_at_4mation.com.au>

I just added my first 'tag'. But now realise that If I 'Update' my
working copy, which contains that 'tags' folder, its going to recreate
ALL those files in that tags directory. eek.

So my question is, for the most part developers in a team shouldn't
really be checking out the root directory of a repository, only the
trunk? Otherwise every time you release a version and tag it, you will
be creating real copies of the whole project on your hard disk.

Just looking for some confirmation of my thoughts, any advice
appreciated, thanks.
