*mat files

All contributions are quite correct as far as I can see!
*.mat were associated with Access files which is installed on my
PC.
But I changed it to associate this file type with the matlab
application.
And *.mat files is a proprietary matlab binary format. Using another
extension is a workaround.
But still I wonder why I cannot use TSVN with *.mat files, I have Win XP
SP2 on my PC and others can.
I still assume that it's a 'feature' of this version of the
Windows Explorer to make *.mat files to shortcuts. As soon as I create a
*.mat file it gets an icon with a shortcut arrow.
Well it's not really a big issue and there are some workarounds.
I also looked at the Microsoft support pages but could not find anything
to that point (Explorer <-> *.mat files).
