Context menu question

Can someone tell me what Tortoise does when you right click to bring up the context menu.
It seems to take an age each time I do it - the further I go down the checked out tree the quicker
it is which implies to me that it's scanning down the tree every time I access the menu.
It's over a network so it's not super quick anyway but the display of the progs. / directories is OK
once they're cached. Is there anyway I can speed up the menu display ?

I'm using TortoiseSVN 1.3.1, Build 5521 - 32 Bit.
