Yes, you are right. Windows has the words CON, AUX, COM1, COM2, COM3,
COM4, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, PRN, NUL reserved. You are not allowed to create
such named files (extensions are irrelevant as you saw) or folders.

Try a "md aux" in a cmd.exe under XP and you'll get a "The directory
name is invalid." error message. This is a relict from bad old DOS ages.
