It's not exactly fooling it. You can do this same thing (almost) in a much
longer process. From the repository browser, check out each directory
selecting the "check out only the top folder option." It takes a lot of time
to produce the similar results. The difference is that you always get all of
a directory rather than eliminating certain files.

Also, we are talking about a very specific use: loading only certain updated
files onto a production server.
