Re: Where shall we go?

Hi guys,

I am not part of the active developers of TortoiseSVN, but I think one of the
main question you should ask yourself is:
1) Do we still want to host the TortoiseSVN project on a Subversion server?
As far as I know, GitHub hosts Git repos, and BitBucket is for Mercurial and Git
also. Second important question:
2) Is the hosting service provider philosophy has an importance, and should we
look by who it is owned?
And finally third question:
3) Do we want to widely open the development (and visibility) of TortoiseSVN by
adopting a highly popular VCS system like Git? Is it a non-sense or not?
Final consideration from an IT point of view, you should look at the
ease-of-migration of course, and list in details which features or logs would be
lost.

SourceForge sounds like a natural answer to your original question in my
opinion, but it is a mature service and might be less and less used (in favor of
GitHub?). I personally does not use Git or GitHub for the moment, but I am
conscious that today it's like there's no way around. I have some old projects
hosted on Assembla which has a free plan for OpenSource projects, but it may has
some limitations.
You may have a look at: http://www.svnhostingcomparison.com

Cheers,
Justin
