I'll ask this in Users as well. I was looking at the web portal and clicked on the wrong 'Forum' link when I posted. My apologies for mis-posting this.
Just for clarification, I did not directly edit the config file for the application. I used the GUI settings dialog for tortoise. I did notice that the config file had a commented line for the ignore pattern, but I left it as it was.
In addition, in response to steveking, I used the GUI settings dialog to 'clear' the global ignore list. I would have hoped that it would have been an empty string in that case, but I just tested it as the string " " (without quotes). The same problem persists. Interestingly, this doesn't affect files, which I can add properly. It only affects directories that follow these rules.
If you wish to contribute further, I will move this discussion over to 'users', so to keep things on topic. Thank you for pointing out this error to me. Again, my apologies.
