Overlay Icons 1.7.x and Externals

since version 1.7.x the overlay icons are not working in combination with external-folders. if i use a project with no externals the overly icons are working very well.
with a depth of two folders i can see the overlay-icons for the files but the state will not change to the root.
if the depth is grater than two folders the overlay-icons are not existing.
if the setting "Status cache" is set to "Shell" i can see the overlay-icons and the changes but not back to the root-folder. so, this is no solution for us.
