Recent update to 1.7.1.22161 has explorer.exe consuming most CPU displaying Tortoise controlled folder

Hello folks,

Just something I've recently witnessed was immediately after I updated
to 1.7.1.22161 on Windows XP (Build 2600.xpsp_sp3_gdr.101209-1647:
Service Pack 3), using explorer to browse to directories that are
tortoise controlled SVN Checkouts consumes very large percentages of CPU
time, often explorer.exe is running between 40-80%.

Visual indications seem to show that selecting a folder takes 10-12
seconds to start displaying the contents of that folder, and then a
further 10-12 seconds to then start showing the icon overlays on top of
files and folders it contains.

I tried to navigate to non-tortoise controlled folders, and navigation
is a fraction slower then normal, but still changes the display within 2
seconds. Slower then it was previously when I was running under build
1.6.16.21511.

Watching Threads in Process explorer simply shows that 40-80% of the
total CPU utilization is split between:

ntdll.dll!TrlAllocateHeap
BROWSEUI.dll!BrowserProtectedThreadProc

during moments when a Tortoise controlled directory is selected, and the
huge pause/delay that is witnessed before it completes display of the
folders contents.

Are there other people experiencing this massive loss of performance
recently?

I'm unsure if there is anything else I can mention at this time that
will be helpful, but if there are any diagnostics tools you would like
run, or some other information I can provide, I will be happy to do so
when I return to the office.

Kind regards,

Scott :)
