"problem contacting the server", sometimes

When trying to show the log for a project, I get notified that "There has been a problem contacting the server" and prompted to work offline.

This problem only occurs with version 1.6.16. It does not occur when using version 1.6.15. It's also confusing since this problem only happens in certain situations.

I can log in to machine A, open the Repo-browser, select any file or folder in my repository, and select "Show log". It will work correctly every time. In particular, I want to see the log for file X; it works just fine.

I can also log in to machine B, open the Repo-browser, connect to the same repository, and select any file or folder *except* for file X or any folder that contains it, and select "Show log" successfully. However, if I try to show the log for file X or any of its parent folders, I get the "problem contacting the server" message.

Similarly, other users can log onto their own machines (i.e., machine C), and can successfully view the log for any file in our repository, including file X. But if any of these other users log on to machine B, then they have the same symptoms as when I log in: they can view the log of any file except file X.
