Since the moment you noticed that serf is functional again I am using serf
and it worked fine for me before. Should I try neon?

I have noticed one more thing - at the moment when I get dots in the path I
am getting the crash - may be you are using the shortened path somewhere and
have much more high resolution and get the path shown without dots, while in
my case I am getting dots in the middle?
