I know. You always risk to cut off just the important part. I think that
in most cases the last part of the URL is the most important, so
inserting an ellipsis "somewhere" in the middle should be good.

OTOH it could be worth a thought to strip the repository URL or to make
it a two-liner, so that the first two lines of the commit dialog read:

Committing to: https://some.server.url:port/Repository/Base/
/branches/1.6.x/some/sub/path

In my cases (just checked three), the server+repos base part was longer
than the path inside the repository.
