Sometimes I think it would be a good idea to use controls that display
an ellipsis '...' in the middle of the string to make the string fit the
control, so that you can see the beginning end the end of the string.

Something like e.g.:
https://tortoisesvn.googlecod...ches/1.6.x/Languages
instead of:
https://tortoisesvn.googlecode.com/svn/branches/1.6.x/Languages

Aren't there text controls around that can do this automagically?
