I fired up Process Monitor and instructed it to look for anything
containing "gdi" in the path. Then I opened a revision graph, waited a
little and then saved the graph as a png. The resulting logfile is
attached. (I inserted a blank line between the two actions.)

Maybe one of you can make some sense of the logfile.

Hopefully it's not my brand new XP-install that's faulty. :-/ But you
never know. I have used it for over ten days now...
