Check for modifications is your friend.

You have not given us much to go on, like what the error message was,
or even which version of TSVN. If you are switching to a path which
has versioned files where you currently have unversioned files you
might get an obstructed working copy.

There is also (I think) an option to delete all unversioned files in 1.5.0.

But really this sounds like a subversion problem. You should ask on
the users_at_subversion mailing list.
