Using a symbol font won't work reliably, because you must not assume
that a specific font is installed on the OS, and even if the font is
installed, they differ between OS versions.
Also, I haven't found suitable glyphs in any of the symbol fonts I have
installed on my machine here.

That's why I used icons. Feel free to draw up some better ones! I've
repeatedly mentioned that I'm not good at drawing stuff, so if someone
else wants to improve those, be my guest.
