And while I remember, Notepad2 uses a different colour for symbols
used to indicate spaces, tabs and line-endings (red, but it could be
something different). That seems like a good idea as those symbols
could really exist in a Unicode file, and colour-coding shows whether
you're looking at a character representing whitespace, or a real
character.

I did get caught out with this myself recently, looking at a file
which contained a line of dots and spaces. In TMerge 1.4.8 the spaces
are always shown as dots too, but at a different height, and it took
me a while to work out why the dots were wandering up and down.
