What about a drop-down box as on http://www.truecrypt.org/donations/ ?

Even if it came down to buttons, I wouldn't mind 5-10 on the donation
page at all. I would just appreciate the possibility to choose depending
on my budget.

I'd say its worth a shot. I'll be the first to subscribe, given that i
could choose a fitting amount (If 10 buttons/options, something like
1/3/5/10/25/50/100/250/500/1000 dollars/euro/pounds per month).
