Possible bug - TortoiseMerge cannot save while in Unified Diff mode

I discovered this while attempting to apply a patch. Since my TortoiseMerge
is configured to start in Unified Diff ("single pane") mode automatically, I
was unable to save the changes from the patch. If I switch to two-pane
view, the Save operation is re-enabled, but it automatically disables
if/when I switch back to UniDiff mode.

Is this behavior intentional, or a bug?

If intentional, may I inquire as to the rationale? It doesn't make a lot of
sense to me on the surface.
