Limits on "Default number of log messages"

Testing/using the latest nightly (r10935) on WinXP SP2 I noticed a
rather strange behaviour - the "Default number of log messages"
setting reverts to 100 if I try to set a number less than 6. Confirmed
the same behaviour with version 1.4.5.

Is this an intentional limitation?
