That's what I figured. Unfortunately it seems it is calculated from the
default colour, not my modified colour. But this may have changed in the
latest revision. I've downloaded the source, so I may have a closer look at
how it is implemented.

That said, I don't find those automatic variations helpful. I find them
confusing and cluttering. I would welcome a setting for this feature so that
I can turn it off.

Problem definition: Can I achieve a setting similar to my screenshot? Is it
a good idea? Are there technical problems?

Cool. Sounds like this will let me get the results that I want (provided it
allows me to turn off those automatic variations). Registry settings are
probably good enough for this kind of detailed tuning. Most users are
probably happy with the defaults or simple tweaks. And I take it that my
proposed scheme didn't convince you to change the default scheme.

colors.

With my proposed scheme you're in fact using less colours. :-)

There's no lack of space in the color configuration page though. Ideally,
every configurable color should be easily accessible; in a list if
necessary.

> The problem with that is that as soon as the user disables the strikeout
font, the colors don't change automatically and therefore he won't be able
to distinguish between added and removed lines anymore.

Not entirely true; the line icon ("+" or "-") gives a clue. If that's not
enough, here is another proposal that should cater for those strikeout
haters: configurable text colours. I've seen this used in other diff tools
with great effect. A paler text color for deleted lines should work nicely;
with or without strikeout.

> I don't like the idea of having just one color for added and deleted
lines. But you can configure TortoiseMerge like that if you like.

Ok. I guess that's the gist of the matter. Preferences differ. Full
configurability is the answer, and my understanding is that TortoiseMerge
will have that; at least through registry settings. Good.

> Yellow is already used for added lines :)

Not in my setup. :-)

But if yellow and orange are preferred defaults for non-conflicted changes,
maybe you should alter the colour of the navigation buttons to match?

> you could install a nightly build from trunk and see if some of the colour
issues you reported are still there?

I may try that if that registry thing doesn't work out.

Thanks for your reply.
