Thanks for your suggestion. That would work if there I had different
levels of developers, however I guess what I'm trying to do is just help
all the developers on the subversion client-side of things not to get
into a muddle when changing common code.

I know it wouldn't be foolproof, but the ability to mark an external as
readonly would be a great option! When an update was done, the svn
client could mark the local files as readonly.

I'll go and suggest it on the subversion list.
