Re: Forcing Update Before Commit

No amount of updating will fix your first case. SVN sees it as a
legitimate change that removed the previous changes because that is
exactly what you have done. You updated to the latest version, then
modified it by copying the external file over it. You will always lose
changes if you copy external files over existing files in your working copy.
