Hi all,

Just a little thought to add to this discussion:

How about project definition files (like from Dev-C++). These contain
the list of files in a project (i.e. should be versioned) but also the
latest (local) build number (i.e. should not be versioned). The file
is modified after each compile by a developer, but only
additions/modifications to the file list are really interesting for
the other team members.
