On large commit, TortoiseSVN massively balloons in size

Attached you will find a screenshot of my TaskManager after attempting to commit a moderately sizable changeset to what isn't a large repository at all. This particular comiit contained some 2500 new and/or modified files and many deletes.
I had tried once before, unsuccessfully, to do this same comit. That attempt hung my system up severely. When checking Task Manager TortoiseProc was at about 350mb. After a reboot I issued the same action and let it run to completion. My system was moving like a dog after this finally succeeded (a good 30-60 minutes later). Checking Task Manager displayed the screenshot attached. This number did not go down on it's own, even after waiting 5-10 minutes. I had to reboot to reclaim use of my system.
