I do not know either how often I would commit. The future is always a difficult thing to predict... But I do feel that I would contribute more to the project with commit rights than without. It is easier to fix small errors and details directly than having to submit each one of them by a patch. (Thinking specifically on Timgdiff here.)
...and if there are users who do not contribute any more, maybe it's time to revoke their access? If they decide to go at it again it's just to re-request commit status or to send a patch.
However, I'm cool with you decision either way around. :-)
