Hi Stefan,
I'm +1 on this. I also found the combo-box much more intuitive to use.
It just seemed natural, which the button does not.

In what way is it non-standard? If it's the length of text on each
line, the first 100 chars or something would be enough to identify the
message.

But it's not one more click. It's a click followed by locating the
dialog box and the line in it and then another click. It takes a lot
more thought and is a lot more distracting than just click and select
from near where the mouse is already. It's also less obvious what the
button is about than something which is clearly a list of items (since
that's what combo-boxes are).

We use the Tortoise commit dialog as the basis of our peer-review on
every commit. Sometimes it takes several reviews before we agree that
the code is fit to check in*. Also we have multiple kits for multiple
platforms and operating systems, all based on the same code but with
some files which we can't put into the common area. Sometimes I find
myself doing the same thing in multiple places. In this case selecting
a previous message and modifying it slightly is quicker than re-writing.
I do use this feature quite a lot, and although I can endure the new
method, it's one of the few bits of your wonderful tool which isn't so
slick, and it's definitely a retrograde step in my opinion.
[* It would be really cool if it remembered the state associated with
the message as well - which items were selected for checkin.]
