I don't share your point of view, and that's it.

If you mean that "not sharing a POV" is the same as "not accepting
it", then ok, I guess.

No, I simply said that your proof was totally irrelevant to my point.

The fact that I gave no further comment on the subject does not
translate as a "rejection".

Because I've never said it is.
I think that "phoning home without prior consent" is controversial.
I do not think that fetching a text file is controversial.

You are putting words in my mouth.

I think that the polite thing to do would be to ask the user first.
Making automatic updates opt-out ("on" by default etc.) sounds very sane to me.

I've never said that "any attempt to contact the home server is bad",
as you postulate above.

Fair enough. Then only 2 out of 3 pieces of proof that I presented hold water.
