Re: [TSVN] TortoiseSVN calling home?

Ah I can't resist... here, u r on the right track so this is the time to
ask - can you make an option in the installer to select the icon set? I
mean to reach the configuration I have to pass through the explorer so I
have to face them before I can reach the options. Also the settings for
the devices/network/etc. And most important - an option in the installer
to disable that evil cache which eats up the memory and damages my hdd!
There is not even an option to disable it later, this is ridiculous! I
will stop using your free opensource product otherwise so be scared.

Anyway... tsvn is a program I call "safe" and let it out. I too use the
firewall to block calls to home for programs I'm suspicious, but tsvn is
just open source and I trust it enough. For the non-paranoic users,
having tsvn check for updates by default is good, while for us,
firewalled, I found out in 20 seconds that tsvn is trying to check for a
new ver after I got the firewall popup and let it do it. I don't see a
sense for such an option to be in the install, except, as Stefan
mentioned, to put the whole configuration in the install so nothing has
a chance to run before you can stop it. I may not like my browser's
homepage it tries to open before I can reach the settings and remove it,
it's look I have to see before I can change it and so on, but I can
change these if I want to so they are not an issue and will complain if
there is not a way around. The way I see tsvn features with priority are:
1. What Stefan likes
2. What most of the users want (critical)
3. What most of the users want (optional)
4. (highly optional) What a single user wants

There is no way to make everyone happy, I think this discussion on such
a minor(private) issue is just a lost time.
