Oh Man. I can't resist this...

But when Firefox 1.5 does it (check for updates automagically, and in some
cases even install those without asking), it is considered the greatest
thing since sliced bread and the biggest feature worth upgrading for.

Same goes for any google product.

Both Google Talk and Google Desktop search silently upgrade themselves
without even telling you it had been upgraded. I believe an article was
posted on Slashdot pointing that out and (I assume) hoping to get a response
similar to Molle's but the response was quite the opposite.

This is getting completely off topic though, suffice to say I trust
Microsoft (or open source) products phoning home more than I trust Googles
products - one company makes their money off your private information, the
other sells operating systems...
