Typically, a compiler optimization defect will materialize itself
*always*, although the result of the defect will not materialize itself
the same way, always.

If there were unexplained "random" crashes, too, that would be equally
unexplicable as the NULL pointer accesses, then, yes, I'd consider a
compiler defect to be a possibility. What I have seen being mentioned on
the list here points to some other source of data corruption.

My experience applies to debugging/QA'ing code generated by Borland C++
and Delphi compilers on Windows and Linux (and Borland Delphi on .NET).
