commit 'recent messages' list

Hello

I am going to request a couple of improvements about the commit 'recent
messages' list handling.

The first one is to avoid to insert the same string more than once.

The second one is to sort the list by usage, ie the first list item is the
chosen item of the previous commit. This should purge the less used items and
mantain the most used ones.
