If you wan't a baseline I think you are better of using a something like Reason http://www.propellerheads.se/reason/.
 
Jokes aside, I really think you should have a look at the subversion book http://svnbook.red-bean.com/ and read some about how to use subversion in general.
Then maybe post in the user list if you still dont get it.
 
(Ok, short short version: Every commit creates a new revision, with for all practical purposes IS a "baseline". If you want to name that, create a tag.)
