My question is: Can this be converted to .NET? I've never done a shell extension, so I'm not sure; but I'd like to think that there's a .NET way to do it.

I seriously doubt that MS includes MFC in the platform sdk - they do include it in the SDK for 64-bit Windows, but not for 32-bit Windows.
