Have you tried F5 to refresh the explorer view? The amount of
auto-refresh has been reduced because it was having other undesireable
side effects, like renaming a file being aborted unexpectedly.

Overlays only really work properly in the right pane, not the left
tree-view pane. This is due to a problem in explorer.
