The commit-log history feature, has, of course existed for a long time.
However, since somewhere around 1.2 the behaviour did change slightly so
that when unselected, the first entry in the drop-down list is always blank.

I think it would be more intuitive if the unselected drop-down list
showed your last commit message instead of a blank line.

Probably the blank-line behaviour was introduced because of (valid)
complaints that as soon as you clicked the drop-down list it would
insert the selection, even if you just wanted to browse. But there must
be an approach that can solve both issues...
