Aha, so you're using Samba? Then read the chapter "NAME MANGLING" here
 - http://us5.samba.org/samba/docs/man/smb.conf.5.html

"...case sensitive = yes/no/auto
... No Windows or DOS system supports case-sensitive filename so
setting this option to auto is that same as setting it to no for them.
