This is the fix that I'd already hit upon, but it can get rather messy.

Will this remove the issue completely? That would be excellent news,
and would make it perfectly acceptable to have to use the above
workaround in the meantime, or simply to stick with 1.1.7 (we don't use
locking). The dreaded question: is there any planned release date for 1.3?

I think this issue would be worth putting in the FAQ or somewhere
obvious. It does cause some very ugly and confusing behaviour when it
strikes.
