Because at my company we're using subversion for a LabVIEW repository.
There all the source is binary and every subroutine is in a new file. So
I really don't know *which* file I'll work on during a session and
sometimes I'd have to lock many files (which would be easy if I lock the
complete tree of a (sub)project).

Currently this isn't a big issue for me because there's normally not
more than one person responsible for a (sub)project, but this may change.

I know that locks can lead to problems. That's one reason I abandoned
the internal version control system of LabVIEW because this was very
unstable regarding the locks and the administrator (me) had to unlock it...
