Further information:

If the mouse enters from the bottom, left or right edge, the tooltip
flashes. If it enters from above, there is no flashing. Bizarre :-/

Also, the tooltip is displayed as one long single line which doesn't fit
my screen. Autowrap would help here if that is even possible in
tooltips.
