I think Stefan will not want to add another option if it can be
avoided - we are trying to get rid of some of them. But maybe we could
detect when a dark background is being used and pick an alternate set of
colours - what do you suggest for use on a black background? Should
there even be different colours in that case or should we just use the
default text colour for everything?

By the way, does TortoiseBlame work OK for you in high contrast mode? It
derives highlighting colours by taking an average of two system colours,
but I am not sure how well it works in all cases.
