Building on from these (as it seems that the initial question has been answered). I thought only folders could be imported into the repository, which was meant to represent your intended repository structure?

That's normal subversion operation. After you import you have to
checkout.

No, because there is no option for that in Subversion.

If you want to request that feature, you have to go to the
users@subversion list to do it.
