The problem I can see with this is that you end up keeping the 'last
status' for every file ever cached, until you find out those files are
nolonger on disk. Would that be an issue? I don't think so, but I no
nothing about the code so can't really comment.

But I'd really like to see this behaviour changed as currently my
folders more often than not show the wrong state of un-modified because
only items in subfolders are modified.
