Hi Steve,

haven't read the other suggestions yet and I think I'm not going to,
before writing this.

I can imagine two solutions:
1) The progress dialog could show what's going on [(un)locked
(un)successfully] and if some operations are unsuccessful, allow the
user to multi-select the files in question, and have a right-click menu
item that either steals or breaks the lock depending on what operation
was attempted the first time.

2) A separate dialog which contains only the failed files in a list box
with check boxes pops up when (un)locking fails. Users can check the
files they *really* want (un)locked. A button at the bottom reads (steal
lock | break lock) and acts appropriately.
