I called it a bug because it's a deviation from what the command line
client does.

Also, it makes no sense at all - there's absolutely no benefit to the
current feature of "cutting off the last path component".

Also, multiple people at my workplace are extremely annoyed by it.

If not a bugfix, then let's at least call it a "fix for undesired behaviour".

Please consider including it?
