Yes, undoubtly the new cache makes the recursice status usable and I am
very happy that you are doing so much work on that. Usuable in a sense
that the explorer remains responsive when working in a large WC.

Yes it is. On the other hand I currently use it as a "feature" that
slows down the svn status fetch, so I can immediatly see and feel the
improvements the cache makes.

That exactly is my problem with the current way. I think it is better to
display no overlay than displaying the wrong status (with "wrong"
meaning "not recursive").

Yes it certainly does. Even with my "poor performance problem", the
exporer remains responsive with ExternalCache=1. When disabling the new
cache, I can go drink a cup of coffee before I can use the explorer
again (when opeing the root folder where all my working copies are).
